P.O.D. 'Banned' By Christian Bookstores
December 5, 2003Christian rock act P.O.D. have apparently had their latest CD banned by 85% of Christian bookstores in the U.S., who say the album cover is "occult".
"It's quite ironic that throughout my art career I have been censored by a reputable art publication and denied inclusion into art exhibitions because my work is too religious," artist Daniel Martin Diaz told Australia's Undercover News. "Now my work is being censored by religious outlets, some folks need to enlighten themselves with art history".
P.O.D. fans, many from the Christian community, are outraged and are speaking out through the band's online forum at their official web site. "It certainly is a stab in the back, and I have found the Christian Music industry to be very confused by P.O.D." writes one fan. "They censored the 'Fundamental Elements Of Southdown' album, didn't touch 'Satellite', and now suddenly have an issue with 'Payable On Death'. It makes me mad that Christian bookstores no longer support P.O.D., because all they're doing is going out there and spreading their message to non-Christians and playing in non-Christian-bubble venues".
"This is a big blow against what they stand for," says another.
P.O.D.'s third album, "Payable on Death" was released in early November.
